M. K. S. College, Trimuhan-Chandauna, Darbhanga, is a premier co-educational constituent college of Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU), Darbhanga. Named after the immortal Sanskrit poet Mahakavi Kalidas, the college has been serving as an important centre of higher education for the rural and semi-urban youth of North Bihar since its establishment in 1967.
As a constituent unit of LNMU, a university established in 1972 to fulfil the long-cherished educational aspirations of the people of Mithila, the college contributes significantly to the universityโs mission of promoting accessible, equitable, and transformative education. Situated at Chandauna, the college has a sprawling and eco-friendly campus spread over 30,351.55 square metres, providing a conducive environment for academic pursuits and the holistic development of students.
The college offers undergraduate programmes in Arts, Science, and Commerce across 17 subjects, along with postgraduate programmes in History, Sociology and Hindi. M. K. S. College was established in 1967 at Trimuhan, Madhubani, with a modest beginning of just 6 teachers, 3 non-teaching staff members, and 120 students. From these humble beginnings, the college has steadily expanded its academic programmes, student strength, and institutional infrastructure. In the course of its development, the college shifted to its present campus at Chandauna, Darbhanga, where it continues to pursue its mission of providing quality higher education to the region.
With the establishment of Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) in 1972, following the reorganisation of colleges from the erstwhile Bihar University and Bhagalpur University, M. K. S. College became one of the constituent colleges of the newly established university. Since then, the college has continued to grow in academic strength, institutional capacity, and stature, emerging as an important centre of higher education in the region. Today, M. K. S. College is recognised as the only constituent college of LNMU within an approximate radius of 25 kilometres of its location. Serving a large rural and semi-urban catchment area, the college plays a significant role in fulfilling the higher education aspirations of the surrounding population. Its journey from a modest beginning to an established constituent college reflects its enduring commitment to academic excellence, inclusive education, and the educational and socio-economic development of the region.
